Capture the Flag (CTF)
This virtual competition includes custom-written malware based on attacks and techniques that our security experts have seen in the wild and have used Tanium to remove.
Participants will use Tanium and compete against other CTF teams to look for clues about the nature of the bespoke malware campaign infecting the endpoints and suppressing the EDR and clean it up before time runs out and it ransoms the endpoint!

You’ve registered to participate in Capture the Flag (CTF). Now what?
Register for CTF
While registering, add the In-Person Labs or Virtual Self-Service Labs ticket add‑on to your base Converge ticket and sign up for Capture the Flag (CTF) on the Session Selections page.
Brainstorm your CTF team details
After completing your registration, begin thinking about who you will want to have on your CTF team. CTF teams will be limited to four (4) people max per team and all team members must:
- Possess a Converge ticket with an In‑Person Labs or Self‑Service Labs add‑on
- Be registered for Capture the Flag (CTF)

Build your CTF team
Approximately three (3) weeks prior to Converge, you will receive an email with instructions on how to submit your CTF team details. Requested CTF team details will include:
- Name and email address of your team captain
- CTF team name
- Name and email address of your CTF team members
Alternatively, you will be able to identify yourself as a solo participant if no other people from your organization are participating in CTF and you will be placed on a team by the Tanium CTF organizers.
Prepare for CTF
Review the CTF connectivity requirements and complete a Lab access test. Instructions on how to perform these tests will be emailed to the email address you registered with.
Attend CTF kickoff meeting
Log in to your Converge profile and access your personalized Converge agenda to join the CTF Kickoff Meeting. You will receive information on how to access the CTF competition Platform and Lab environment in this meeting—attendance is mandatory for all CTF team captains and team members.
Compete!
Go head-to-head with the other CTF teams and race to solve progressively difficult challenges. Email [email protected] in case any questions arise while competing.
Winners announcement & debrief
Be sure to check back in to the CTF Zoom room to hear which three (3) teams will be eligible for prizes at Converge 2025!

Yes! The top three (3) CTF teams will be eligible for additional prizes. Prizes TBD.
To sign-up for CTF, add either the In-Person Labs or Virtual Self-Service Labs add-on to your base ticket and indicate your interest in participating in CTF on the Session Selection page while registering. Note that if you are attending in-person, signing up for Capture the Flag (CTF) will prevent you from selecting any in-person Labs taking place at the same time as CTF on November 17.
Capture the Flag (CTF) sign‑up will be open until 5:00 PM PT on Wednesday, October 29. After this date, new CTF sign‑ups will not be permitted.
Questions related to CTF registrations and sign-ups should be emailed to [email protected]. Any questions regarding CTF challenges, CTF teams, or the CTF lab environment should be sent to [email protected].
You will receive an email approximately three (3) weeks prior to Converge with instructions on how to confirm your CTF team captain, team name, and team members. CTF teams will consist of up to four (4) team members total (including yourself) and all CTF team members must be registered for Capture the Flag (CTF) and possess an In-Person Labs or Virtual Self-Service Labs ticket.
